The Delusion of Dualism
All of creation began out of the relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three were one. They weren’t divided. There was no bad guy, only a divine connection.
When God made man, he was included in that connection. We were in God’s plan for creation. We were to be blessed and have dominion, an integral part of this divine connection.
When we chose the knowledge of good and evil, dualism entered in. Now, instead of connection, there’s a bad guy. Adam seemed to be the bad guy, unworthy of God… afraid, separate and ashamed. We now had a good God and a not-good guy in the eyes of Adam. There was no more awareness of the divine connection.
Even the connection with His wife was affected. The female, who was half of this creation called “man”, who was one with the male: flesh of his flesh, bone of his bone, has now become the bad guy that Adam can blame for his trouble. Blinded to their connection, the male sees himself separate from the female. It was after this that he gave the female a separate name. He called her Eve.
It is interesting how this dualism never unites. It only divides. It separates people and makes them feel alone. How many lonely people in the world are there with billions of people when there is so much connection to be made? How many are feeling like God demands more from them rather than enjoying the beautiful connection we already have with God?
Look how we blame “the other” for the ills of this world. Look at how the knowledge of good and evil is used by the media to agitate, scare and anger humanity for the sake of ratings and money. This is all traced back to our original taste of dualism that has been humanity’s steady diet ever since.
But notice the beautiful sound of the Word of God, how in Christ there is no difference between us, whether it’s male or female, one nation or another, rich or poor. We even see Jesus ignoring the barriers in the temple that excluded women and gentiles and those with bad behavior. In Christ, we see our union with God, with ourselves, and with one another. This is the beautiful truth of God who has reconciled all things to Himself in Christ.
It’s only this truth that sets us free from the bondage of dualistic thinking that can never bring about any type of restoration in this world. Only a love that casts out fear of “the other” can bring about God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. This special love, agape love, is something we should continue to look into and something we should continue to learn as God teaches us His heart and His ways.
If we continue on this path, eventually the whole earth can be filled with the knowledge of the goodness of the Lord.
