Getting "Fixed" or Living Life?

We live in a culture where it seems that the goal is to get us “fixed” in some way. Even in our Christian culture, the majority of ministry is about getting healed, getting blessed financially, getting relationships to work, praying for situations to go our way and hopefully to avoid as much discomfort as we can.

I would first like to say that God actually does fix things quite a bit. We pray and see healings, sometimes even miracles, but none of us get our way 100 percent of the time. I even had the idea at one point in my life that if I could get my faith to a certain level, I could control all the situations in my life. While faith is powerful, it just doesn’t control every thing that comes to us.

So, what do you do in a situation that God didn’t fix?

I have been in a few of these and it can at first feel frustrating and confusing, but I found that in these situations, there is something deeper and even better than getting fixed. These are the times that I’ve had to just sit with God in the middle of the problem. These are the times to listen and learn about something that carries more weight than changing something in the temporary realm. These are opportunities to gain perspective; opportunities to grow big inside; opportunities to learn what eternal LIFE is really all about.

When hardships didn’t go the way I wanted, I was still comforted by a Father who was still good. He ministered to my heart and not just my circumstance. He showed me that I was bigger than my situation. I would outlive it and outlast it because I was more than this earthly life I had built. I found I could smile and have peace in the middle of a storm. I learned about a real faith and a grace that didn’t make me feel small just because I couldn’t control the outcome. In these times, I have learned the deep things of love, patience, and even joy.

If we can see who we are, we would realize we don’t need so much to have things fixed in our lives. We need to know that we are loved and we are in the best place we can be. We are in the care of a Father and He has imparted to us a LIFE that is larger than our lifetime on earth. This is the abundant LIFE that Jesus came for. This is the LIFE we live.

Because God is good, prayers will be answered, bodies will be healed, and situations will be fixed. Because He is good, we can expect goodness from Him, and we can receive by faith. But let’s be aware that LIFE is more than things. It’s more than money. It’s more than even our physical body. LIFE is abundant and LIFE is forever. And this is the LIFE we live.
