When I’m Big

Do you remember when, as children, we would talk about how it would be "when I'm big" or "when I grow up"?

Have you ever thought about that in terms of spiritual growth?  What changes will take place?  How will I be different from the way I am now?

Isaiah 54:2-3 is a passage of scripture that is used often to give us a vision of growth. It says, "Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings. Do not spare. Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes, for you shall expand to the right and to the left..."

Every time I've heard these verses preached, it was a command to get a bigger vision for our life, usually in regard to our personal prosperity.  It encouraged us to have a greater expectation of growth in our ministry or business.  It was a promise that we were going to get big.

But let me offer another way of being big, a way that is different from traditional ideas of success and wealth.

The greatest wealth I have found is the perfect Love of God.  I know that His love has made me bigger inside.  My capacity for patience has increased.  I have found that I have more room in my heart for difficult people.  This is growth!

When we are big, we are not easily offended.  We don't fear, and because we don't fear, people are not enemies to be defeated or dominated.  We are big and we see from an elevated position.  Instead of anger, we have compassion for hurting and confused humanity.

When we grow up, we will be healers without wrath.  We will love and give with the same graciousness and freedom as our Father.  When we grow up, the world will finally see Him, and happily bow their knees.

Have a great day!  We believe in you.
