What’s Your Theme?

“My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” – Psalm 45:1

Everyone has something that they speak most about, are most passionate about.  When you think of them, you often think of their favorite subject also.  With some, it’s political ideas, with others, religion, with some, art or music, with others it’s sports. 

What comes from our words and actions puts an image before people, like a painting, or a poem, or an aroma.  Complaining and hateful negativity obviously creates an ugly image.  Like when we see a disturbing theme in a painting, or when we read anger-filled writing.  The ugly image evokes a yucky feeling within us.

The world seems to be full of ugly images coming from the mouths and pens of the multitudes, but there is another kingdom, a beautiful kingdom, within the hearts of a multitude called the children of God.  We dwell in an experience of beautiful love, joy, and peace.  We aren’t motivated by fear.  We don’t echo the ugly images already being painted.  We bring a different picture, a different sound, a sweet-smelling aroma.

We are a different option.  We are in the world, but not of it.  The beauty of the gospel, God’s unconditional Love, and His amazing grace are the most truly relevant themes for this time we are in.  In fact, creation is groaning and waiting for it!

“For the creation is eagerly awaiting the revelation of God’s children.” – Romans 8:19
It’s good to remember who we are, where we are (God’s kingdom), and why we are here.  Everywhere we go, we bring beauty.  This is our true superpower.  

“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14
