The Beauty of Humility

There is a quality in the heart that produces fertile ground for the things of God to grow: it’s called humility.

Humility is that gentle knowing that reminds you of the grandness of God and your sweet dependence upon His goodness. It is neither thinking too much nor too little of yourself. Rather, it considers there may be something new to learn or a fresh way of seeing an old problem or being open to a different perspective.

It’s being teachable. It’s a delighted surrender. It’s an honest evaluation of our own limits as a human.

Humility opens the heart to learn of God, to hear the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit, to walk in the unforced rhythms of grace. It is a rest, an openness, a happy submission.

Whenever God doesn’t seem to be answering your prayers, or you’ve been confused by His timing, or you have been disappointed with an outcome, remind yourself of this loving Jesus-quality within you ~ humility ~ which you can access any time you choose. Though it can be seen as something quiet and tender, it holds an immense power that can instantly break down any walls you’ve built up from a lack of understanding.

These are the kind words of Jesus: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and My burden light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
