Spiritual Heart Transplant

Not long ago, a man became the first heart-transplant patient to receive a heart from a pig.  He lived for a few months, but sadly, he died.  I’m not going to make any cheap jokes about this man’s situation, but I will confess that I noticed my mind slightly thinking about how a pig’s heart might affect the behavior of a man.  I caught myself wondering, not seriously, but a fleeting thought that maybe the pig heart would give the man some pig-like ways.

Silly, right?  I know it’s a dumb thought.  A physical heart is merely a pump.  However, it did lead me to another wonderful thought…

When we are in Christ, it’s like a SPIRITUAL heart transplant, and this new heart DOES have an affect on our thoughts and behavior.

“And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” – Ezekiel 36:26

Isn’t it amazing to see how this Christ-heart has made changes in us over time.  As it beats within us, it continually works to influence our thoughts.  I know that, in my case, it has caused me to see humanity in a much more loving way.  It’s made me much more patient.  It’s given me more understanding of people, and life in general.  It’s caused me to feel more peace and joy. It has surprised me in that it has led me deeper and deeper into the unconditional Love that I was once suspicious of.  I’m aware that I know so little of God’s ways, and I’m excited to learn and to change more as I grow to look more like Him to others.

As I often say, “We don’t just take stands for Christ. We get to BE Christ to the world around us.”

We get to love as He loves.

This heart in us, His heart, will continue to alter our thoughts and feelings in a wonderful way as we see more clearly through His eyes.

Let’s embrace the beautiful changes that will happen to us.  What a powerful change agent this Christ-heart is!
