Light Shines in the Darkness

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5, NIV)

Light shines and darkness recedes. Light doesn’t need to fight or punish the darkness. It simply shines as it is designed to do.

The darkness can never overcome true Light.

Earthquakes, war, political divisiveness, fear, unforgiveness, depression, health crises, conspiracies, mistrust, and unhealed hurts. Whenever you consider the dark happenings in our world, just remember that nothing extinguishes the Light of the World.

Humility, peace, joy, faith, generosity, helpfulness, kindness, graciousness, goodness, community, warmth, hope, and love are just a few of the things that Light offers to heal a dark world.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16, NKJV)

Jesus said that YOU are the light of the world. YOU are the light this world needs. You are not hidden. You are shining truth and peace and joy into a world suffering from darkness (ignorance, shame, lust and pain).

You carry the treasure of Christ within you. It is you, entwined with Christ, that powerfully shines light into dark situations and circumstances.

There is no need to be afraid of the darkness. Darkness is simply the absence of light. We need light to properly preceive the world around us. We need light to be able to communicate and interact with others. Light even initiates the life-sustaining process of photosynthesis. Without it, there would be no life.

So shine on, dear one. Shine brightly in this dark world. It needs you more that it can understand.
