I Am Free
I’ve often heard that God is a God of justice. This is usually used as an argument for punishing sin, but maybe we misunderstand the whole idea of God’s “justice”. From what I see in the Bible, and from what I personally experience with my Father, His justice is completely different from a human idea of justice.
The prophet, Jonah, wanted justice for Ninevah. To him, it meant punishment for them, but God said, “Should I not have compassion on Ninevah, who do not know their right hand from their left?” (Jonah 4:11)
And I like Matthew 20, where we see God paying those who worked one hour the same as those who worked all day. Of course those who worked harder complained about it, but God said, “Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?” (Matthew 20:15)
And I could talk about every sinner, including you and myself, that received mercy, grace, and Love when man’s idea of justice demanded something else.
Is God a God of justice? Yes, but His idea of justice is not the same as the carnal justice of man. His Love IS His justice. It is JUST for Him to be good, for that is the right thing to do.
God is not a man. He is not led by the knowledge of good and evil. God is Love. When we know this kind of Love that makes no demands, we know God Himself.
