Come to Me

How is it that people in a relationship with God, who is so loving, so good, and so perfect, find it hard to really enjoy that relationship? Why is it hard for so many to believe in God’s absolute goodness toward them?

The answer is, “compulsion”. Humans feel a need to be compelled. Religion trusts in compulsion, rather than a free, loving relationship with no demands. They think that without demands or compulsion from God and religious leaders, people cannot change for the better.

To be “compelled”, means to be obligated, constrained, forced, coerced, under duress or pressure.

Humans believe that spirituality is about duty, service, will power, and trying to please God with rule-keeping. There is no way one can enjoy God that way. You will never ever feel good enough. You might feel proud of your efforts, but enough will never be enough.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”Matthew – 11:28-30 MSG

Bottom line: There are no demands from God! There are no requirements! He is not forcing you to become a better person. He loves you just as you are, not some future, perfect version of you. Please throw away any compulsion to work harder for godliness. It’s a religious, humanistic sham.

Now we can enjoy living loved. What God fills our heart with, begins to outshine and override any hardships of this world. He is truly our best friend. He is loving, gentle, patient, and kind. He listens, He cares, and has only goodness to give you. He is the fullness that fills every heart.

Isn’t it great to be weak and flawed (by human definition, not God’s); yet be able to rest in the goodness of the One who knows us best?
