A Grateful Heart is Better Than Gold
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to talk about what we HAVE, rather than what we don’t have. It’s a good time to take inventory of our lives, and give honest attention to the things that make us wealthy souls. Most of us are more wealthy than we realize, and those who DO realize their wealth are also very grateful souls. A grateful soul is also an extremely happy soul. I’m not going to tell you what to do here. Instead, I want to give you an honest look at my inventory…
My first wife died after 33 years of beautiful marriage. I don’t have much money. I live in a small house. I’ll just stop there on the negatives, because I really could think of many things that have happened in my lifetime that are just horrible.
HOWEVER, God allowed me to meet Judi. She’s a wonderful wife and I’m totally in love with her. I mean honeymoon kind of love, even after eight years. That’s gold!
We get to do what we love most. We get to encourage people with this beautiful gospel and spread the Love of God. AND we get paid for it! We never ask for a penny, yet people will support us out of the goodness of their hearts. They are such amazing friends. That’s gold!
Our little three-bedroom home is just the right size for the two of us. We got a great deal on it, and it’s cozy, comfortable, and beautifully furnished. That’s gold.
My children and grandchildren are healthy and well, and we LOVE being with them. That’s gold.
I know God digs me, stink and all, and nothing I do will ever change that. His Love is the thing that I wanted for so long and I didn’t know it. I am convinced now that He is with me. He’s for me. He cares. That is gold.
When we start looking at our treasures in life, we realize that the list seems almost endless. We can easily be overcome with gratitude. And a grateful heart in itself is gold. I am aware that I am a very wealthy man. There are things to struggle within this world. Our equipment can break down. Our bodies may have issues. And, oh yeah, that covid thing. But when we are thankful with what we have, a smile forms on our faces. We walk a little taller. We seem to have much more to give.
