When Love Speaks

Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone and found yourself stuck in “defense mode”? “If only they could see it from my perspective, they’d see how wrong they are!”

Or, have you ever stumbled once again and thought, “I can never change! This will never get better”?

These thoughts come from what we refer to as our “Resident Attorneys.” They are the voice of selfishness and are brilliant at building our defense. They are very logical and we may even think they are trying to protect us. Sadly, they often lead us into a dark place, a place of deception, anger, frustration, and discouragement.

Thankfully, we have a relationship with a loving Father. God is love. God speaks to us with love. His speaking to us brings about love. When we stop defending (which we know from experience can be a challenge), we can take a breath and ask Him, “Father, what do you say?”

In that moment, we are assured that we are dearly loved and cared for. We are humbled. We are reminded of Jesus’ words to turn the other cheek, love our enemies, bless those who curse us, pray for those who spitefully use us.

How can we do this? It may seem like Jesus’ way might make you a “doormat”, but actually it makes you the bigger person: a Son of God.

Who you were meant to be. Love cannot be controlled from this position because love is GIVING rather than DEFENDING.

In this place, we can forgive. We can let go. (We can fire our attorneys.) Because Jesus is our one true Advocate.

Let’s take time today to listen for God speaking love to our hearts. Friend, I have loved you with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)
