Resting in Our Connection

As we enjoy this Christmas season, let’s take a moment to ponder the miraculous gift of Jesus. Through His life, Jesus let us know one of the most important things that we will ever know… that God LOVES us.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved [made whole, delivered]. ~John 3:16-17, NKJV

One of the most beautiful gifts God gave us through Jesus was a picture of Himself. He is a healer, a forgiver, a provider, a comforter, a patient, kind, and thoughtful Father. And He is for us.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, No one comes to the Father except through me. We cannot really have a connection with God if we do not perceive Him accurately. We cannot truly connect with an image of God or a wrong idea about God, only with His true, authentic Self. And Jesus is telling us that to connect with God, we must look at God how He looked at God, how He revealed God to all humanity, through Him [His perception].

Jesus reveals God to us as Someone who LOVES us, Someone who is a good, good Father. Like a good Father, He knows your weaknesses, your hurts and traumas. He knows your strengths and victories in life. He knows why you do the things you do and how your experiences have shaped you. He understands. And right where you are He, quite profoundly, loves you.

Jesus also shows us that WE humans are God’s priority. He is willing to provide us with everything we may need for life and godliness (see 2 Peter 1:3). We don’t have to make everything perfect. He is our perfection. He do not have to produce peace. He is our peace. We don’t have to come up with the ideal gift. He is our gift. We can lay down our best efforts. We can lay down our striving. And we can let God be our Source.

We can trust Him.

Let’s take a moment this Christmas season to savor our connection with God through Jesus.
