Reconciliation Mentality

In the beginning… God made us like Himself.  The intention was that we would be united with Him.  He would be our Life, our strength, our everything we would need.

Later, Adam would separate from God.  The man would not see himself as belonging with God, but Adam become “the other”, someone whose differences could not be overlooked.

The wife, who at first was called by Adam, “flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone” (unity language), soon became someone to blame for his problems.  The man and woman as “one flesh” had each become “the other”.

And then there are the brothers, Cain and Abel…

When we look at the creation story, as well as the new creation story, we see that separation is not God’s design.  In Christ, we are united with God. Thus, we are neighbors to the Samaritan, and friends of the sinner.  The beautiful reunion of the family of God is seen.

“And we no longer see each other in our former state—Jew or non-Jew, rich or poor, male or female—because we’re all one through our union with Jesus Christ.” – Galatians 3:28

The lines between us are not natural or normal, nor are they even real, they are simply created in the imaginations of humans. When we look with our Christ-eyes, we see no lines. We see humanity, God’s beautiful, (though troubled) objects of His Love.  While there are many differences in appearances, cultures, opinions, and beliefs, all of us are objects of God’s love. Where humans have drawn lines of separation, Jesus erases them.

Love is the answer for a world that has suffered from its Adam-like separation mentality.  Friend, let’s choose a Christ-like reconciliation mentality.  It will eventually change the world, one heart at a time.  Until then, it will certainly give us the gift of peace and joy in our own hearts, and that is our personal heaven-on-earth experience.
