Is God’s Kingdom Fragile?
Sometimes, I get the impression that a lot of believers in Christ think that we are in a battle that could possibly be lost as if the church and the ways of God are teetering on the edge of annihilation or, at least ineffectiveness.
I have GOOD NEWS! God’s kingdom is NOT fragile!
“There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace.” – Isaiah 9:7 NAS
We are not establishing God’s kingdom on earth. Jesus already did that. He put the kingdom within us.
“One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, ‘When will the Kingdom of God come?’
Jesus replied, ‘The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.'” – Luke 17:21 NLT
It’s here, in us. There is peace on earth. It’s in us. God’s ways have been established on the planet. They are in us. Rather than try to wrestle the world into the image we desire, let’s be who we are. That’s what the world really needs. What creation is really looking for (whether they know it or not, probably not) is the treasure we carry within us. We carry within us a perfect Love by the Spirit, a joy that can be ministered by the Christ-heart within us, along with peace, gentleness, kindness, patience… This is Christ manifested to the world. This is the manifestation of the children of God.
God’s ways are better than our ideas. For instance, a movement in Christianity once resulted in our country making alcohol illegal. It obviously backfired. More crime, more alcohol production, and the rise of criminal gang power were some of the results. Compare that with the Welsh revival of the 20th century. Bars closed down en masse because hearts were meeting God. External force had nothing to do with it. The culture had changed from the inside out.
I’ve never been more excited about revealing this wonderful kingdom to any and all of Jesus’ friends. He is “a friend of sinners” (Matthew 11:19).
