Above ALL

A lot of people have been dealing with some stressful situations over the past few years.  Loved ones have died or suffered greatly due to a pandemic that was unimaginable three years ago.  Jobs and education have been disrupted.  Families have been separated by distance.  Many have become offended over disagreements about policies concerning the economy, government leadership, and other things.

The apostle, Peter, wrote his first letter to various believers during a very trying time.  Christians were maligned and reviled.  Some were being tried and executed for their belief.  Years earlier, in Matthew chapter 24, Jesus told his disciples that this time would come.  He said the pressure would be so great that “the love of many will wax cold.”   The time of tribulation had come, so Peter wrote to encourage and instruct them.

“Above all, have fervent and unfailing love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins [it overlooks unkindness and unselfishly seeks the best for others].
Be hospitable to one another without complaint.”
– 1 Peter 4:8-9 AMP

“Above all” means that this is the most important thing of all.  Whatever we neglect to do, do not neglect this.  The pressures of life can cause a strain on relationships, but Love (agape) is powerful.  Life can impose situations that can divert one’s attention so that they lose their way, but Love is always our compass.  It keeps us on top of the situations, because in Love there is joy, peace, and goodness.

I don’t know how to make all of life’s trials go away, but I have found something bigger than all of them.  It’s this big, wonderful Love of God.

I hope this is encouraging.  I want you happy every day, even in an imperfect world with weak and beautiful humans.
